As you drive west on State Highway 30 towards Whakamaru you will see the cliffs on the other side of the lake.  There are two areas to choose from the Left Abutment and Prominent Peak (across from the ski lane).

Left Abutment Prominent Peak

While there are only two recorded climbs in the area there is plenty of scope for further development.

bulletRoutes - 2

bulletGuide Book - Central North Island Rock

Access to both area is gained by driving up the opposite side of the lake, using the road which starts near the end of the dam.

The Left Abutment is on private land owned by Les & Joy Martin (07) 882 8772 and permission must be obtained prior to entering the property. Access may be declined.

We understand that the Prominent Peak is on Department Of Conservation (DOC) land and the climbs listed in the guide are situated on the lower left of the cliffs. there is plenty of potential for more routes.

Refer to the guide.
