Introduction
As you drive west on State Highway 30 towards Whakamaru you will see
the cliffs on the other side of the lake. There are two areas to
choose from the Left Abutment and Prominent Peak (across from the ski
lane).

While there are only two recorded climbs in the area there is plenty of
scope for further development.

Access
Access to both area is gained by driving up the opposite side of the
lake, using the road which starts near the end of the dam.
The Left Abutment is on private land owned by Les & Joy Martin (07)
882 8772 and permission must be obtained prior to entering the property.
Access may be declined.
We understand that the Prominent Peak is on Department Of Conservation
(DOC) land and the climbs listed in the guide are situated on the lower
left of the cliffs. there is plenty of potential for more routes.
